Abena
“Bringing Love Back”
Abena was born on the beautiful island of Nevis, in the twin federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. She was born to accomplished singer Erlene Amory (also known by the name Erlene Williams-King) and the Honorable Vance Amory (former Premier of Nevis and well known cricketer). Abena was exposed to and influenced by music at an early age. With the variety of music she heard while living there, coupled with her mother’s singing… it was just a matter of time before Abena unveiled her ability. While performing a Mothers’ Day song, Abena discovered how much she loved singing… and everyone else discovered she was naturally blessed with the same gift her mother has… a beautiful voice. Abena went on to sing and win in competitions (Music Festivals) while living in St. Vincent, during her Middle School years. By the age of 12, Abena moved to the U.S.
She continued to sing and after her High School years, she began to sing with a gospel choir by the name of Raymond Trapp and the Voices of Praise. While with this choir, she sang tenor and reached the semi-finals one year at the McDonald’s Gospel Fest… and went on to be a finalist the next year. She also sang with the choir at the Pathmark Gospel Fest (performed at Grand Central Station, NY). Afterwards Abena joined a Soca band by the name of the BQE Band. While with them, she performed at Carnival events for the cities of New York, Miami, D.C., and Virginia. Abena stayed busy… she would sing backgrounds for many people as well. Some of those people would include Beckett (well-known Soca artist), and opened up shows for Hopeton Lewis. In 2010 Abena branched out even further into the music world. That year she sang background for a hip-hop single “Hello World”, alongside long time friend Phoenix Flames (brother of Masta Killa of the Wu-Tang Clan fame). Not long after that, Phoenix featured her on another single “Everybody Up (Its Going Down)”… both singles doing very well on college radio nationwide, as well as on “underground” and internet radio worldwide. Abena now began to be known in the Hip Hop world as well, showing how dynamic she is as an artist. Once reaching that point, Abena decided to take her talents into the world of R&B. Abena prefers the world of R&B because it allows her to reach a broader audience, while having more freedom creatively to express herself as an artist. Having a beautiful voice with a range of 1st Tenor to 2nd Soprano, Abena is sure to have an impact.
Now in 2012, Abena has released her first R&B single “Fallen” (a beautiful song about what is missing today, LOVE). She has begun working on her debut album, and continues to sing throughout NY… as well as appearing on songs with other artist. Abena is a dynamic singer/artist, who intends on using her ability to bring Love back to the R&B (and Pop) world… she has no desire to sing the same kind of over-sexed songs that over-saturate the airwaves today. Abena has a home now with the independent label, Regime/Quality Music… headed by K. “Phoenix” Flames. The sky is the limit for this beautiful songstress… and she is well on her way.
