Cris has now become a household name in Sheffield and is
spreading like wildfire, after joining (SCR) Sheffield Community Radio in 1998 Cris soon became known as the
Soca Master on the airwaves. His ability of being able to mix the different variations of
Caribbean Soca, Calpyso, and Ragga Soca has revolutionized the way in which people in
South Yorkshire has come to appreciate Soca music. Sheffield being a predominantly
white city with a small black community was a tough area to start playing Soca, but Cris
never gave up, the way in which it was presented, was what made it acceptable and
successful.
DJ Cris now has his own show on air every Sunday playing the best of Soca music, along with Reggae, Ragga, Soul, and RnB clearly showing how versatile this young man really is. In 1998 Cris performed at Birmingham annual Carnival, where his sound system CK Sound System shock the place with an unbelievable clear and sweet sounding system, putting most the big boys and veterans to shame, and it is only now that most of them have come to realised that it's not the size of your system but instead it's now you configure your system.
Cris's personality plays an important part, as a crowd pleaser and mover any dance that he plays at is one worth going to.London Nottinghill Carnival 2000, Cris unleashed his talent both as an Sound Engineer and DJ, providing the backing force for one of London's famous DJ's Sugar-K from Unique FM. No other sound system had such a massive following after leaving the official carnival route, which goes to show class is class.
Sheffield University annual International Week saw Cris in action working the crowd like never before, proving once again that he's a force to be reckon with. Cris played a non stop 4 hour set featuring all the latest Garage, RnB, Soul, Dance, Soca, and Ragga to a sold out venue, promoters for the event claimed that over 700 tickets were sold.
